Why “Just Right Reader” Products?

  • Parent Engagement: Professionally-made videos linked to each book’s QR code give parents insights into the book and letter-sound focus, empowering them to help their child. These videos are designed for students and their parents to watch together, fostering positive connections between parents, children, and books.
  • Engaging Content: The stories, illustrations, and themes are lively, engaging, and clever, with a touch of humor to make reading enjoyable rather than just a homework task.
  • Cultural Relevance: The stories represent the diverse children in our classrooms, allowing students to see themselves in the characters.
  • Building Confidence: Just Right Reader develops confident readers by sequencing book levels based on a research-based literacy learning ladder, with high levels of decodability.
  • Extensive Collection: A vast collection of books provides multiple opportunities for children to practice reading skills in a sequence that supports literacy growth.

Why “Decodable” Books?

  • Early Readers: Decodable books support children in the “learn to read” phase (generally PreK-2nd grade). Building reading skills on this solid foundation prepares them for the “read to learn” phase starting around 3rd grade.
  • Intervention Tools: Decodable books are powerful tools for upper elementary and junior high learners who require additional time to practice essential phonics-based skills. Just Right Reader and other publishers offer “high-interest low-level” decodable chapter books for this audience.
  • Motivation: High-quality texts with high levels of decodability motivate beginning readers to continue reading.
