Warner Bros. Discovery Confirms Max Launch in 7 Asian Markets in November

Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed its long-anticipated launch date for Max in a slew of markets across Asia. The media company said Tuesday that the streaming service will go live on Nov. 19 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong. WBD said the platform will be offered in a range of plans — including a lower-cost mobile-only tier targeting Southeast Asia — with pricing details to vary by country and provider.

WBD has long operated a standalone HBO Go streaming service in parts of East Asia, but the Max offering will supplant that platform with both superior technology and a larger content library.

“We are thrilled to bring Max to more consumers in Asia,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming & games at WBD. “Max brings together unparalleled quality content from iconic brands like HBO, Discovery, the DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network, as well as Hollywood blockbusters all in one place.”

Following earlier rollouts in North America, Latin America and Europe, the Southeast Asia launches bring Max’s reach to 72 markets. The Asia-Pacific is the last major region the service has yet to fully tap. WBD says further launches in Asia are in store for 2025.

Added James Gibbons, WBD’s president for APAC: “Warner Bros. Discovery has long entertained fans across Asia Pacific with culture-defining content from powerhouse brands. For the first time, this programming will be available in a brand-new streaming app for regional audiences, with Max combining incredible breadth and depth and a best-in-class viewing experience.”

Gibbons teased WBD’s streaming ambitions for the region while attending the APOS media conference in Bali, Indonesia in September. Delivering a keynote at the event, Gibbons forecasted the coming SE Asia rollout, while also noting that Australian consumers should expect Max to launch down under in the first half of 2025.
