Chicago Tribune reports that California prosecutors are pursuing the five men for the attempted murder of Quando Rondo. Court records say the attempt was reportedly a shootout at a Los Angeles gas station in August 2022. Surveillance video captured the incident, which led to the death of Quando’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.

The murder plot was reportedly a form of revenge for the death of Lil Durk’s mentee, King Von. For context, Rondo’s affiliate Timothy ‘Lul Tim’ Leeks was initially charged with Von’s murder. In August 2023, prosecutors dropped the felony murder charges, per Complex. Durk is accused of putting a bounty on Quando’s life.

More Details About The Alleged Murder-For-Hire Plot

The men charged are Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. Their charges include conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire involving a death, use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms in a violent crime resulting in death, and use of a machine gun in a violent crime resulting in death. Jones is also charged with possessing a machine gun.

The DA’s statement says that if Banks and the other defendants, who are charged in a separate indictment, are convicted, they each face a statutory maximum of life in federal prison.

Lil Durk’s hip-hop collective, Only The Family (OTF), is reportedly at the center of the crime. California prosecutors say OTF owns the credit cards Grant, Wilson, Jones, Lindsey, and Houston used for flights and rental cars.

Five men, Wilson, Jones, Lindsey, Houston, and an unnamed man, flew from Chicago to San Diego on Aug. 18, 2022, then drove to Los Angeles, per the Associated Press. Durk had allegedly texted an associate that same day to arrange the flights. “Don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me,” he texted, per FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran’s arrest affidavit.

Once in Los Angeles, the group of five linked with OTF associate Kavon Grant. Grant is who booked the hotel rooms, purchased ski masks and secured two luxury sedans. Additionally, Grant also provided Lindsey, Jones, and a third suspect with the guns used in the shooting. Grant had flown to California in a private jet alongside Lil Durk on the same day the co-conspirators flew there.

On Aug. 19, the group followed Quando Rondo and his cousin around from a dispensary to a clothing store and gas station. Houston parked their getaway car in the back of that last location while Jones, Lindsey, and the third man hopped out and sprayed Rondo and his cousin. DA’s office said the co-conspirators fired 18 rounds at Quando’s vehicle.

Afterward, the suspects went to an In-N-Out hamburger spot and discussed their payment with Grant before flying back to Chicago from San Diego. Wilson is who ultimately paid Jones and Lindsey, but the dollar amount remains unclear.

Lil Durk Reportedly Tried To Leave The U.S.

Grant, Wilson, Jones, Lindsey, and Houston were all arrested in Chicago on Thursday. After their arrest, FBI Agent Corcoran said Lil Durk booked multiple flights to leave the United States. The rapper booked two flights from South Florida airports for Dubai and Switzerland, per AP. Additionally, he had booked a private flight to Italy, but U.S. Marshals arrested him in Miami en route to its international airport. FBI agents reportedly learned that he had booked the private jet about two hours before his scheduled takeoff at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, his arrest comes over a week since he assured his fans he’s getting back on the music scene. The X post on Oct. 15 read, “I want y’all to feel this energy and how I’m going back to the basics I can’t rush it on some industry sh*t I got us.”

Village In Illinois Distances Itself From Rapper

Less than 24 hours after Lil Durk’s arrest, the Mayor of the Village of Broadway, Illinois, decided to revoke the rapper’s key to the village. Mayor Katrina Thompson made the announcement via Facebook on Friday. Additionally, Mayor Thompson said the village is ending its partnership with Durk’s foundation, Neighborhood Heroes Foundation. Durk had JUST received the honorary keys from Broadway and Village of Bellwood last week.

The statement recognized that the U.S. justice system presumes Durk innocent until proven guilty. However, it added that the opinion of its residents and village partners take priority. So, given the rapper’s arrest in Florida, they elected to withdraw the honorary key and end the nonprofit partnership.

“As mayor, protecting Broadview’s interests and upholding the values of residents is job number one,” Thompson wrote.

Video Shows Lil Durk’s Loved Ones At Courthouse After First Hearing

Early records showed no bond amount listed for Lil Durk. His lawyers, Brian Bieber and Alek Ubieta, told TMZ the rapper has his first court appearance on Friday in a federal court in Miami, Florida. CBS Miami also confirmed the hearing.

Footage captured by the outlet shows Lil Durk’s dad and other loved ones exiting the courthouse after Friday’s hearing. Both his dad and attorney declined to speak to the press. Meanwhile, the outlet notes that the rapper will appear in a second court hearing to determine pre-trial detention.

While the outlet notes that a second hearing will happen in California (the state the charges stem from), a date for that proceeding or federal custody transfer has not yet been set. See Durk’s family exiting the courthouse below.

Also, over the weekend, Quando Rondo seemingly responded to Durk’s arrest in a message about forgiveness.
