As mentioned before, I am hair-lazy: I scrunch and then consider my work done. In the month since my Texturizing Air Dry Mousse was delivered, I’ve been working it through my hair a little bit at a time, using a claw clip to separate each layer. I’ve found that this results in more overall volume and way more curls. Then, when (and if) I’m about to leave my house, I use my Dyson Airwrap to smooth my bangs over my forehead.
Pro tip: Even if it’s not a wash day, you can still make this mousse work for you—I’ll wet my hair so I can apply a few pumps and watch my curls come to life.
The results
Once my hair dries, I have bouncy, natural-looking curls and plenty of volume. While other mousses can make my hair feel crunchy and stiff, Crown Affair’s mousse leaves me with silky hair that’s soft to the touch.

According to Gueldner, I owe this texture to the product’s ingredient list. “This mousse is full of good stuff for the hair—enriched with camellia japonica (tsubaki) seed oil and panthenol, two powerhouse ingredients that deeply [hydrate] and help retain moisture in the hair,” she says. “This is particularly beneficial for curly hair, which is naturally drier and prone to frizz.”
Personally, I still notice that I have a lot of flyaways on the top of my head after using the mousse, so I finish my routine by applying a tiny bit of anti-frizz cream where I need it. I’ve also noticed that my results are even better on day two: My frizz has calmed down, and the curls look a bit more loose and casual.
You don’t need to have my specific hair type (fine and curly) to reap the rewards of this product, either. Gueldner says this hair mousse works for almost anyone: “It can add texture for people with finer, straighter hair or help create more defined curls for wavy and curly hair. This particular mousse is exceptionally great for those with curly hair because of the moisturizing ingredients—it will really help to give anyone with curly hair a boost with their styling,” she explains.
Bottom line
On days when I want my hair to have perfectly imperfect curls, I’m applying Crown Affair’s The Texturizing Air Dry Mousse, period. Although the price is steep, at $38, I’ve been using it twice a week for a month and still have about two thirds of the bottle left. I love how it makes my hair feel, the scent, and the fact that I get so many compliments from friends on how bouncy my curls look. In short, I actually get to enjoy my curly hair.
