The state of Utah has a parent portal for all parents of students in Utah Schools. They have put together resources to help support your role in the educational process. You can view this portal at: https://schools.utah.gov/parent/
Monthly Calendar
This calendar is interactable. On mobile, turn phone sideways for better view of events. Feel free to add this calendar to yours by clicking on the bottom right corner.
Math Volunteers Needed!
Was math ever your “thing”? We are looking for some parents who would be willing to give us volunteer hours helping secondary students build their lower level math skill sets. We find that at the secondary level, kids are missing skills that may have been instructed in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, but for some reason, those skills never cemented.
We are super flexible with time, but we need more hands than we currently have. If you are at all interested, please reach out to Mrs. Ungerman, [email protected], and we’ll put you to work!!!!
Elementary Halloween Activities – October 31st
The Elementary students kindergarten-6th grade, will participate in a Halloween Parade.
The parade will start promptly at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 31st.
Parents are invited to view the parade outside, please dress accordingly. All families attending will enter the back of the school through the gates on either side of the school. In the case of bad weather, the parade will be held in the J.H. gym.
Parents helping with class parties, please remember to sign in at the front office and get your “visitor badge”. This will take extra time with the number of visitors coming so please plan your time accordingly.
JH Halloween Dance – October 30th, 1:30-3:30pm
All Jr. High students are invited to a Halloween dance on Thursday, October 30th from 1:30-3:30 pm. It will be for all junior high students and will be held in the Elementary gym at Lincoln Academy.
The theme of the dance will be Haunted Forest Dance. Costumes are approved to wear at the dance and during class time. No weapons (look alike weapons), masks or “blood” of any kind will be allowed.
The costumes must also be modest and not offend any group of people. Staff members need to be able to identify students in costume. Jr. High students WILL NOT be participating in the elementary parade.
The Great Pumpkin Contest – Oct. 30th
Change in Finance Office Hours
A couple of years ago the state passed legislation requiring public schools to use a finance system that communicates with the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) finance system. The finance system we have used for many years (Quickbooks Online) is not on the list of systems that will communicate with the USBE system.
In September 2023 we started the process of reviewing financial systems that meet the criteria set out in state code. In Spring 2024 we obtained board approval to sign an agreement with Tyler Technologies to implement School ERP Pro as our new finance system. We started implementation on July 1 with a planned go-live date of October 1.
As we prepare for the Oct 1 go-live date the Finance Office will be closed most mornings between 9am – 12:30pm for implementation meetings. After go-live we expect the number of implementation meetings to decrease, however, we will continue to hold meetings many days from 9am – 12:30pm until about Thanksgiving, as we work on getting financial data from the first quarter into School ERP Pro.
If you have questions for the Finance Office please plan on calling or stopping by before 9am or after 12:30pm.
Thanks!

New Grading Procedure for Secondary
Dear Parents,
This year, the junior high (grades 7-9) is going uniformly to a 4 point grading system that will better align with concept mastery. We all know that grades can be subjective, but knowing that a student has mastered the required concepts and is at grade level is the most important focus we can have. To support knowledge acquisition, we are using the following grading scales:
3+ – Proficient
2 – Approaching Proficiency
1 – No Grade (Needs to continue to work with teacher)
0 – Assignment is missing
These grades will look as follows by percentage:
Percentage Range |
Letter Grade |
3.5 and up (87.5% and up) |
A |
3.25 – 3.49 (81.25 – 87.49%) |
A- |
3.0 – 3.24 (75 – 81.24%) |
B+ |
2.75 – 2.99 (68.75 – 74.99%) |
B |
2.5 – 2.74 (62.5 – 68.74%) |
B- |
2.25 – 2.49 (56.25 – 62.49%) |
C+ |
2 – 2.24 (50 – 56.24%) |
C |
0 – 1.99 (below 50%) |
Not Passing (will show up as an F) |
Please help your student to understand that if they haven’t started to approach the standard, they need to get with their teacher to improve their grade.
Athletes and students participating in the play may not be carrying any F’s in order to participate in games or the play. We really want to help our students start to take ownership of their own academic progress. If you do not have a CANVAS mirror account, please check the website for those instructions. We really appreciate your interest in helping your student stay academically eligible to participate in activities.
Potential New Books for the Curriculum
Lincoln Academy has received a request from teachers and our librarian to add books to our approved curriculum list. These books will be either used as classroom curriculum or part of our Battle of the Books program.
We value the input of our parents and have an established process that allows for parental input before curriculum is adopted. The book list attached to this email will be considered for approval at the Lincoln Academy October 23rd Board meeting.
If you would like to review a copy you can do so in person at the Lincoln Academy Library.
Any concerns about books can be shared with Mrs. Ungerman- [email protected] and the board [email protected]
