Until yesterday, it didn’t seem like Blizzard’s legendary StarCraft series would be making a comeback any time soon, and now, both titles are on their way to PC Game Pass. If this wasn’t already enough for one week, there are also new rumours about a supposed “StarCraft shooter” being in development.
During a chat with IGN about his new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier referenced one segment of it – revealing how a small team is apparently “incubating” a new StarCraft shooter.
This has reportedly been going on since the cancellation of Blizzard’s survival game after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard and King. This rumoured shooter is being developed by a handful of talent from the same cancelled project and is believed to be led by industry veteran Dan Hay, who has previously been involved with Ubisoft’s Far Cry series.
Before you get too excited, this project is considered to be in the early phases of its life and Blizzard obviously has a bit of a track record when it comes to the cancellation of StarCraft shooters (previously axing StarCraft: Ghost and a project codenamed ‘ Ares ‘). This is all the information that’s been shared for now, so again – treat it as a rumour.
During its Tokyo Game Show broadcast yesterday, Xbox announced StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection would be added to PC Game Pass on November 5th, 2024.
